Hops – Humulus lupulus

Common names: Hops, common hops, Hopbind, Hop vine

Family: Cannabaceae

Energetics: Cooling & relaxing

Key Actions: Analgesic, anaphrodisiac, antacid, anthelminthic, anti-spasmodic, nervine, phytoestrogen, sedative, hypnotic

Other than the popular use of creating beer, Hops is also a great nervine & sleep aid for insomnia. If you are experiencing nervous diarrhea or looking to stimulate your appetite, ease gas & calm intestinal cramps. The female hops would be a great addition to your apothecary.

Those who are red-faced, hot, damp, overweight & a heated personality with an irritated digestion, drinking a cold tea an hour before a meal will help with any intestinal cramping.

Combinations: Valerian for coughs & nervous spasmodic conditions.

If you are needing a boost your milk production or libido, Hops would be a great complimentary addition to your cup. Be aware that for men, it will reduce libido, so this is not a tea for two.

Warning: Those with clinical depression ( because of its sedative effects), estrogen dominance or allergies to hops (from the pollen). Pregnancy due to the estrogen, as well as young children.
